Crisis in Morro Bay at the 2006 Harbor Festival

...........In October 2006, I had a nightmare come true.  We always arrived in Morro Bay for the festival on the preceding Friday afternoon and set up our display and then head for the motel, grabbing something to eat along the way.   We usually stayed at one of the Motel 6’s in San Luis Obispo, but they were filled up and I made reservations at a Best Western downtown.  After closing up on Saturday, we hopped into our van and drove down Highway One.  As we were cruising through an intersection in San Luis Obispo, a college kid ran a red light and smashed into the right hand side of us. We wife gave out a scream as she saw the car heading for us.  We were able to make it across the street and parked the van alongside the curb. I had a very sick feeling as I was unable to turn the wheel as the front right hand side was damaged and we were definitely going to need a tow.  I was glad that my wife was okay, as she was in the passenger seat.  I hopped out of the van and went around and took a look at the damage.  I couldn’t believe it.  Here we were 220 miles from home and our vehicle was knocked out of commission.  We were doing a show 18 miles away and that’s where all our stuff is and we wondered how we would get our stuff out of there.
