Home A Day to Remember Tough Times at South Lake Tahoe Crisis in Morro Bay
Oregon and the County Fairs
|
I’ve heard many stories about vendors selling at County and State Fairs
and making huge sums of money.
$10-20,000+ was easy for these people to make in a period of 5-14
days. There are quite a
number of products that tend to sell very well at a number of these
events. This is not necessarily so with a majority of vendors who have
to scratch and scrape at the fairs, due to this dwindling economy.
My sales come nowhere near these dollar amounts at the fairs.
I am very envious of these people. It has been worth my time and
effort to do a few of these fairs each year nonetheless, despite having
one or two that are doozies. There are a huge number of vendors who
travel from fair to fair much of the year.
Some are on the road 20 and even 25+ weeks out of the year. If
you are doing the fairs, it’s highly recommended that you have a motor
home or trailer. However, I
have seen a huge number of vendors sleeping in their vans or trucks with
no problem at all.
Nobody wants to spend their money on motels. Those who do find that it
really cuts down on their net profit.
It’s great to have your motor home with you. You have the comforts of
home inside. There are some
vendors that even tow a storage trailer with their crafts and products
behind. I also have seen
people really roughing it as they cook their food inside their booths,
which is usually frowned upon by the promoter’s. Most fairgrounds have
showers. There are people who bathe inside their booths. Yes. Get naked,
grab the hose, squirt down, freeze butt, soap off, rinse, dry and that’s
that. Nobody sees you because you have your covers up.
